I joined Delphia as a mid-level product designer where I was responsible for running discovery research, working on the team's backlog, and collaborating on quarterly planning.
My work focused on understanding user needs and behaviors in order to improve the core investment product and drive growth.
To this end, I led a research project for the growth team which leveraged targeted surveys and follow up interviews to identify user pain points and user perceptions related to our key metrics of sign ups to funded accounts.
Project Goals
Increase sign ups to funded accounts
Refine the continuous discovery process
Plan efficient team work and mitigate risk
I designed and executed a discovery research project to identify problem and opportunity themes for new users that signed up in the last 30 days but failed to finish setting up and funding their investment account.
I was able to gather unique 87 responses from a highly targeted Typeform survey distributed via Intercom. I randomly invited 12 of the respondents for follow up interviews where I used generative tagging in Dovetail to group themed responses and draw relationships between interviews and the survey.
As a result, I was able to document and share concerns that users had about security and trust in the financial sector. Many users did not consider Delphia a realistic option for their larger investments unless we upgraded our security and proved short-term gains. My discovery readout led to tickets for security upgrades, sign-up content updates, and user flow optimizations.
I worked with my team to create quarterly strategies, assessing resources and mitigating risk.
These sessions involved brainstorming together in Miro and compromising with the team to prioritize high-value goals and activities that we could complete in the quarter given our resources.
Our planning allowed us to align on specific team goals and reach out to other people in the org for specialized help. This reduced wait time and minimized blockers to the work.
My team worked on designing the interface for a new investment fund that tracked our algorithm’s investment strategies against Wallstreet. The fund was named Delphia 500 and provided a direct comparison of performance between Delphia’s index fund and the general market index.
Our main challenges were communicating a positive rate of return even with short-term volatility. Our research showed that market fluctuations scare users and make them less likely to invest more dollars with Delphia or to keep their account open.
The Delphia 500 helped prove Delphia is a better way to invest compared to other investment options.

I collaborated across the company to enable and deliver continuous and adhoc research projects that supported the new user journey from sign-up to funded investment account. Our research project yielded insights and backlog items to increase user trust and retention. Unfortunately, I was not apart of any follow up tests to analyze specific metric impacts.
During my time at Delphia, I met a lot of smart people and got the opportunity to explore what security and trust means to users in a highly regulated financial experience.
